Took this shot of a buffalo/bison at Virginia Safari Park in Natural Bridge, Virginia, USA. He looked so pitiful lying there on the ground and I wasn't satisfied with the appearance of the single image, so I layered several more on top of him. They consisted of mold, fungus, and rocks, in sem-transparent layers, to symbolize the sickness and impending death of his breed if we don't wake up and begin to treat the Earth more kindly.

A poem written by a fellow DPCer...

"A Dying Heritage"

A dying heritage
A dying breed
Empty plains
Tell of greed

The land once flowed
with grain and herds
Now only yields
Deadly words

Once free to roam
Now bound by death
The native's strength
Takes one last breath

No honor for beast
No wisdom to know
Of a dying heritage
For the buffalo.
